Applesauce
Recipe by Nicole Thom-Arens
Makes 4 Cups
Warm applesauce is a treat when the weather turns chilly. It’s a great snack and a delightful side to pancakes and waffles on a lazy weekend. Making homemade applesauce is so easy and you can control the sweetness or tartness when choosing your own apple combination. The cinnamon is optional—I like it both with and without. If you’re not able to eat a whole batch, you can freeze leftovers.
Ingredients:
3 medium Granny Smith apples3 medium Honeycrisp apples1 cup water1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
Instructions:
1. Peel and core the apples and cut them into 1-inch cubes.2. Add the apples, water, and cinnamon (if using) to a medium saucepan. 3. Cook over medium heat until the apples are soft enough to mash. 4. When the apples are tender, mash with a fork or potato masher. 5. Serve warm or cool to room temperature before storing in an airtight container. Store in the fridge or freeze. If freezing, leave ample room in the container to account for expansion in the freezer.
